What Do CUDA Cores Actually Do?

Each CUDA core is a relatively simple processor designed to excel at one thing: performing basic arithmetic operations (like addition and multiplication) at incredible speed and in massive parallel.

Individually, a single CUDA core is less powerful and versatile than a modern CPU core. But a modern GPU packs thousands, even tens of thousands, of these cores. This architecture allows the GPU to take a massive dataset—like millions of pixels in an image, thousands of molecules in a simulation, or billions of data points in an AI model—and process all of it simultaneously.

The magic lies in parallelism. Where a CPU might process an image pixel by pixel, a GPU with thousands of CUDA cores can process entire blocks of pixels at once.?
