Education for all, is a Sustaianable Development Goal of the United Nations (UN).
The Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs for short, consist of 17 goals in total, with a target completion date of 2030.
5G NTN refers to using Non Terrestrial Networks (NTN’s), to deliver 5G mobile / cell phone connectivity.
So what are NTN’s ?
NTN’s are any telecommunication network, that isnt physically attached to the earths surface.
So for instance a 5G ‘Cell Tower’, physically located in your town, wouldn’t be an NTN, but a ‘Cell Tower in Space’ would.
Yes you read that correctly, Cell Towers are now being put in space, by companies such as ‘AST Space Mobile’.
An NTN can include communication satellites in space, as well as HAPS, which are High Altitude Communication Platforms.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The latest 5G Non Terrestrial Networks, offer global Internet coverage, directly to a standard mobile (cell) phone.
This means that we can provide online education to every child who needs it.
WHY THIS MATTERS.
This matters because the latest UNESCO estimates, are that 272 million children, dont have a school to attend, worldwide.
HOW CAN WE SOLVE THIS?
By redistributing unwanted old smartphones, to those who need them.
By financing satellite Internet access, enabling connection directly to the smartphone.
Therefore enabling online education to reach those children without a school to attend.
BENEFITS
E-Waste is a growing problem worldwide. Some countries, such as the UK, have recycling rates above 50%, but globally many countries have low rates of recycling.
Rather than polute the earth through innapropriate dumping in landfill, why not reuse those old smartphones, and create a more just and equal world.
A basic education is a right, and shouldnt be a privelage, depending on where you were born.
